3 Great Takeaways from Conference in a Box 2017

ChoiceTel Hosts First Conference In A Box

It Takes a team

Last week ChoiceTel and Diane Smith (CEO, ChoiceTel), hosted their first annual Conference in a Box in the Heritage Room of the newly opened Little Ceasar’s Arena. With a hockey theme, this conference focused on providing three takeaways (a hat-trick) for success. This was accomplished in half a day with a full agenda including two short keynotes, and four panels of experts on important technology topics. Former professional hockey player John Ogrodnick (Detroit Red Wings, Quebec Nordiques, and New York Rangers) joined us and shared about the hat-trick and how hockey games are not won by individuals, but by the efforts of the entire team.

At ChoiceTel, we believe that this principle applies in the same way to organizations building successful and valuable technology solutions, it takes a team.

Keynotes and Panels Bring Strategy Wins

In a keynote on “Complilance, Regulation & Governance”, Tim McCreight (Director of Strategic Alliances) of Hitachi Systems Security provided insight into a different approach for technology professionals offering a path forward for Enterprise Security Risk Management. Aaron Shaver (VP, CTO) from US Signal, provoked critical thinking in the area of information security in his keynote titled “Sold-Out For INFOSEC: Making and Managing a Compelling Long-Term Case.” Chris Burrows (CISO, Oakland County) led a compelling discussion with CISO’s Grant harris (CISO, Flagstar Bank) and Dan Lohrmann (Former CSO for State of Michigan) providing a rich education from the CISO world. Other panels hit on current and relevant technologies such as SDWAN: MPLS Killer or Complement?; UCaaS: Copper Degradation/Voice Sensitivity?; and, Data Centers, Colocation, Cloud: aaS or DIY? At the close of each panel, panelists brought the intel down to a bottom line with 3 quick strategy wins.

Building a Truly Successful and Effective Partnership

In our Fireside Chat With An IT Executive, Diane Smith (CEO) of ChoiceTel led an interactive conversation with Tim Huff (VP of Infrastructure) of Oldcastle Materials. Diane and Tim spoke about building a true partnership. Vulnerability and transparency are critical on both sides in order to build a truly successful and effective partnership.

Cornerstone Schools Receives Donations

We can’t forget about Cornerstone Schools, who was highlighted at our conference as an education institution preparing students for a fulfilling life and servant leadership. Cornerstone’s, Maggie Durant shared the education group’s vision; while two Technology High School students spoke about their experience in this technology conference as an excellent learning opportunity.

In addition to raffle proceeds, Cornerstone was presented with a corporate donation from ChoiceTel.

Thank You Valued Sponsors!

ChoiceTel would like to thank our premium Sponsors, Hitachi Security Services, and US Signal for their support, education, and participation in this event. Other valued event sponsors and participants included Aryaka, CenturyLink, Corporate IT Solutions, Evolve IP, Masergy, Mitel, Nice inContact, Tata, TierPoint, and Windstrea

Summary

In summary, three great takeways from the 2017 conference are:

1) It takes a team to succeed

2) True partnership is a must

3) The right technology at the right time
