Tabice Ward is a technology and cybersecurity executive with over 35 years of experience in the regulated utility and education sectors. She has held progressive leadership roles at Fortune 250 utility companies, demonstrating a proven track record of delivering results and fostering a people-centric culture of excellence. As the former Area Vice President of Security Risk Management at Xcel Energy; and IT Director/Cybersecurity (CISO) at DTE Energy, she has led the strategic direction and transformation of large security organizations, including regulatory compliance, business continuity, crisis management, and physical security programs. She has also led technical teams across IT system delivery, operations, and business relationship management. She excels at navigating the complexities of technology and cybersecurity risk with a “securely enabling the business” philosophy. Recognized as a thought leader in her field, Tabice is frequently sought after for her expertise and actively contributes to non-profit boards, tech startups, industry panels, forums, and committees.
In addition to her corporate endeavors, she serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Detroit Mercy, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in computer information systems. Dedicated to making a sustainable impact and serving her community, Tabice is a passionate advocate for STEM education, committed to inspiring, developing, and empowering the next generation of technology leaders. Her work and contributions have earned her national recognition and awards, including being named one of the Most Influential Women in Cybersecurity and one of the Top 100 CISOs in Fortune 500 companies, establishing her as a leading cybersecurity expert and woman of color in STEM.
Tabice holds a master’s degree in Information Assurance (Cybersecurity) from the University of Detroit Mercy and a bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems from Wayne State University. She also holds a CISO Graduate Certificate from Carnegie Mellon Heinz College, an Applied Cybersecurity Certificate from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has attended the FBI CISO Academy. Additionally, she possesses the credentials of Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Officer (C-ISSO), and Project Management Professional (PMP).
